In 2019 non-OECD Americas produced the lowest amount of energy since 2004 with 26 exajoules produced, the fifth yearly decline in a row. This continued fall is primarily driven by declines in crude oil production in Venezuela, which contracted for the sixth year in a row and is now at its lowest point since IEA records began.

Oil provided 39% of the region’s TES, followed by natural gas at 22% and biofuels and waste, also at 22%. Transport was the largest energy consuming sector, followed by the industry sector.
