How many people can use the product that you have bought or subscribed to?
We offer limited user licences and corporate licences.
- Limited user licences (single user, up to 5 users, up to 10 users) are site licences. All users need to be at the customer’s same place of business.
- The “multi-user licence” for more than 10 users or standard corporate licence (unlimited users, 1 location) allows you to share the material (electronically or hard copies) with an unlimited number of users, but all of them need to be at the customer’s same place of business.
- The global corporate licence (unlimited users, multiple locations) allows you to share the material (electronically or hard copies) with an unlimited number of users who can be working at the customer’s place of business or for any of customer’s affiliates (as defined in the IEA's terms and conditions).
Please note that in all cases when you purchase a product or service from the website, you are agreeing to the IEA's standard terms and conditions.
Please contact:
- rights@iea.org if your intended use is not permitted under the IEA’s terms and conditions; and
- compliance@iea.org if you wish to use more than an insubstantial amount of the IEA’s material in any type of modelling for the purpose of creating derived data or derived products, and any services to distribute or display such derived products where such derived products or services are regular and/or revenue-generating. For this type of usage, you may need to enter into a Licence Agreement with the IEA and pay a fee.

How do you access a product or service you just purchased?
IEA digital products and data services are sold on a "seat licence" basis. To access a products that you purchased you will first need to assign the product to yourself and/or the intended user(s) from your licences page.
Users assigned to a licence will receive a notification inviting them to create an IEA account if they do not already have one.
You can see all the products you have access to on your products page, which is accessible from the user menu at the top right of the page once you are logged in (hover over the circle to the right of the main menu showing your initials). This is where you can download the data or reports and access your online data services.
If you paid online by credit card, your licence will be active as soon as your order is completed.
If you paid by bank transfer, the licence is activated as soon as your payment is confirmed. This usually takes 2-3 business days from the time the payment is processed.
You can check the status of your payment on your orders page.
-
When will you receive your physical product?
Physical products such as USB sticks will be sent to the shipping address you provided by DHL within 2-4 business after receipt of your payment.
To request tracking information, email webstore@iea.org. Please mention the reference number of your order in your request.

Assign a licence to yourself
All users of a product/service need to be registered on the licence. If you are the user, you need to register yourself from your licences page, accessible when you are logged in under the Licences section of your User Profile.
Click on the product name to see the details of the licence. From this page you can click "Assign to myself" to grant yourself access to the product. It will now be available from your products page.
-
Assign a licence to other users
You can register users on licences you manage from your licence page, accessible from your User Profile (icon at the top right of the main menu when you are logged in).
Click on the product name or "View licence" and then on "Assign user". You can add one or more email addresses for the user(s) you wish to add, then click "Assign" to assign them to the licence. If you make a mistake, click the X next to the user to remove them before clicking "Assign". Once users have been assigned, they require IEA approval to be removed.
You can also quickly assign users directly from the licences listing by hovering over the licence and clicking the "Assign user" link that appears.
When a user is assigned to a licence (s)he will receive an automatic notification with access instructions, including instructions on how to set up an IEA account if (s)he does not already have one.
You can see the status of users assigned to a licence from the licence detail page. A status of "Invite sent" means the user was invited to create an IEA account, but they have not done so yet. You can click "Resend invite" to send the instructions to them again.
You can see a list of all the users who have been assigned to the licences you manage from the "Users" tab on your licences page. This listing also shows their account status and allows you to resend the invite email if necessary.
If you manage many licences, for example at different business locations or for multiple clients, you can assign a label to each licence from the licence detail page to help differentiate them. This label is visible only to you.

Remove users from a licence
You cannot remove a user from a licence yourself: it needs to be approved by the IEA for compliance purposes.
To request the removal of a user from a licence, open your licences page, accessible from your User Profile (icon at the top right of the main menu). Click on the licence to view the details and click "Remove" next to the user you want to remove from that licence.
Users who have not yet created an IEA account (status of "Invite sent") can be removed without approval.
Please allow 1-2 business days for the request to be handled.

Download your data and understand IEA file formats (what is an IVT file?)
Most IEA data products and data services are available as downloadable files as well as through the online data service platform.
To download the files, go to your products page, accessible from your User Profile (icon at the top right of the main menu). Click on "Data sets" for the product you wish to access and you will see a list of data sets from the latest release and the available file formats.
Data sets are usually available in two file formats: IVT and TXT.
IVT files must be opened in the Beyond 20/20 Browser software which you can download here.
TXT files, if provided, are in a fixed-width format. Read the documentation for a complete overview of the dimensions included in each data set and the flow, product, and geographical definitions (you can access the documentation by clicking the "..." menu on a product and "View documentation").
The "Download" button allows you to download a single ZIP file containing all of the data from the latest release.
Some interactive data products such as the IEA Energy and Carbon Tracker are provided as Microsoft Excel files.
You can see exactly which files and formats are available before you buy in the "Data sets" section of each product page.

Access your data online through our Web Data Service (WDS) platform
Many IEA data services are available online through our Web Data Service (WDS) platform. To access the platform, go to your products page, accessible from your User Profile (icon at the top right of the main menu). Click on "Access on WDS" to connect to the platform.
If you were given a WDS account prior to May 2021 you can continue to log in and access your data as usual at https://wds.iea.org with the same user name and password. Be aware that any products or services you purchase through the IEA website from May 2021 will not be linked to any existing account(s) you may have on WDS. You will need to access them through the "Access on WDS" link on your product page.
Once you have connected to WDS, all data services you have access to will be indicated by a gold star on the folder icon.
There are 2 ways to access the data in WDS. You can either view online or download the full data sets.
View table (online)
Click on the database in the left column to see the corresponding data sets on the right. Click on the desired data set and then on each of the dimensions, followed by the elements you need. Once you have selected the data, click on "View Table".
Note: in the view mode, there is a limitation of 50 000 cells per download.
Download full databases (and work offline)
To work with data offline, you can download IVT files from your products page or from WDS by selecting a data service in the left-hand column and clicking the red arrow next to each data file you want in the right hand column.
To open these files, you will need to download and install the Beyond 20/20 Browser software onto your computer. You can download the software here or connect to WDS and click the "Download Beyond 20/20 Browser" button at the upper right hand corner of the page.
Many data services also offer data sets in fixed-width TXT format, which you can open in Microsoft Excel and most other data processing software. You can check the product page to see which formats are available before you buy, or click "Data sets" on a product you already own to see a list of files and formats available for download.
