Background Information
The IEA World Energy Investment (WEI) report is the world’s benchmark for tracking investment trends across the energy world. The 2022 edition will be the seventh, and will present the latest data on capital flows to different types of energy projects, including a first set of full-year estimates for 2022. It will examine how investment is recovering after the shock of the pandemic, and how recent price spikes and supply chain pressures have affected investor perceptions of risk and opportunity across all areas of fuel and electricity supply, efficiency, and research and development. Against a backdrop of renewed concerns about energy security and affordability, it will also assess the adequacy of investment flows and commitments to meet strengthened climate pledges from governments and the private sector, as well as the goal to limit the rise in global temperatures to 1.5 °C.
