Renewables 2020 is the IEA’s primary analysis on renewable energy and is based on current policies and market developments across the globe. It forecasts the deployment of renewable energy technologies in electricity, transport and heat between 2020 and 2022, and gives an outlook to 2025.

Renewables play a crucial role in clean energy transitions and global efforts to meet climate targets. This year’s report seeks to measure the immediate and near-term impact of Covid-19 on their expansion and includes an assessment of current and future markets and policies.

Renewable energy has so far been the most resilient energy source to the Covid-19 crisis. The report highlights the reasons for this resilience while also underscoring the challenges facing the sector today. The report explores how renewables can be deployed faster to help achieve international energy and climate goals.
