Near-Zero Emissions Materials Production and Trade Webinar
Background information
The race to bring to market crucial technologies to produce materials with near-zero emissions is underway.
This webinar will present key findings on near-zero emissions materials production and trade for three key commodities – steel, aluminium and ammonia – from Energy Technology Perspectives 2024, the latest edition of the IEA’s flagship technology publication. It is the first report of its kind to analyse the future of manufacturing and international trade of clean energy technologies and related materials, based on granular sectoral data and industry surveys.
The three key commodities analysed are particularly relevant to clean technology manufacturing and trade: Steel and aluminium are direct inputs to the manufacturing processes for several clean energy technologies, while ammonia could play an important role in decarbonising global maritime trade. The production of all three materials is currently very energy- and emissions-intensive, together accounting for nearly 10% of global energy sector emissions in 2023.
Authors of the report will present the global outlook across all of these technologies, before taking an in-depth look at each of the materials in turn. Attendees will have an opportunity to comment and ask questions.
