Mission Innovation exchanges on Covid-19 responses

Event

Background information

As governments struggle to navigate the uncertainties relating to the possible impacts of the unfolding Covid-19 crisis on the pace of clean energy innovation, the IEA participated in a timely exchange of views convened by the Mission Innovation secretariat and engaging government representatives and international experts.

The IEA stressed the need to look at all the linkages in the innovation value chain, and address the weaknesses. Possible weaknesses in corporate spending, especially on demonstration projects, and availability of funds in emerging markets were highlighted as areas where public sector recovery packages could add particular value to prevent the innovation frontier from stalling.

IEA contributions to this event were made possible through the Clean Energy Transitions in Emerging Economies programme, which received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 952363
