The Ministry of Environmental Protection (MoEP) allocated NIS 22.5 million to enable Israel's largest bus companies to buy a total of 37 electric buses in order to carb the pollution levels. The program is part of the government's "clean car revolution" - an effort to reduce air pollution near population centers.

The electric bus program is one of several programs being funded by a debt agreement with the Jewish National Fund. Through that deal, the JNF transferred NIS 390 million to the MoEP for projects aimed at reducing air pollution, increasing energy efficiency, and improving quality of life in Israel.
