Resolution CNEE 171-2008 establishes net metering for autoproducers. It aims to regulate Renewable Distributed Generation, as well as the distributers in relation to the connection, operation and control of the energy produced from renewable energy sources.

It also regulates self-producers of energy that have surplus renewable energy to be injected into the distribution system. Consumers injecting surplus into the grid do not get paid, but receive credit every three months. When consumers use energy (in excess of credits) from the grid, they are charged at regular tariffs.
