The Development Plan for the National Electric System aims to integrate renewable energy in the electric system of Venezuela by including it in both the medium-term (2013-2019) and long-term (2014-2033) strategy.

The plan aims to develop 613MW of renewable energy for isolated and rural communities, of which 500MW are wind. Other potential renewable resources include solar, small hydro, bagasse cogeneration and biogas.

In addition, the plan seeks to electrify 2,512 off grid communities through solar PV and hybrid systems equivalent to 63MW.
