National Energy Policy 2008

The National Energy Policy of Zambia was adopted in 2008 with the objective to remove barriers to the development of renewable energy capacity in the country. Measures to achieve barrier removal include:

  • ensuring availability of data and information on market demand, resource assessment and applicability of Renewable Energy Technologies;
  • strengthening the institutional framework for Research and Development, and promotion of renewable energy technologies;
  • providing appropriate financial and fiscal instruments for stimulating the implementation of renewable energy technologies;
  • continuing promotion, enhancement, development and deployment of renewable energy technologies;
  • raising public awareness of the benefits and opportunities of renewable energy technologies and developing the capacity for their implementation, and promoting renewable energy technologies for electricity generation.
