In 2007, the government of the Slovak Republic announced a programmed aimed at increasing the use of biomass and solar energy for heating in households, to be financed from the state budget. Households that install a biomass boiler or a solar panel will be eligible for a subsidy after meeting specific criteria set out in the programme. The programme aims to fund approximately 5000 units (solar collectors, biomass boilers, or a combination thereof) with a budget of EUR 8 million.
