Export Control Law' ratified

Last updated: 28 August 2024

On 17 October 2020, the Chinese National People's Congress approved a new 'Export Control Law' (hereafter, 'New Law'). The new regulation allows the Chinese government to control exports of "goods, technologies and services" with national security importance. Presumably, this includes both physical and digital goods. To do so, the law provides a framework for the Chinese government to retaliate against other countries perceived to be using their own legal systems to harm the interests of Chinese parties that are deemed a threat to national security.
