Regulation (EU) 2023/1805 Use of renewable and low-carbon fuels in maritime transport

Last updated: 5 August 2024

The regulation aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the shipping sector, by promoting the use of cleaner fuels and energy, promoting the decarbonisation of the maritime transport sector by setting maximum limits on the yearly greenhouse gas intensity of the energy used by a ship (2% reduction in 2025, increasing in 5 year intervals out to 80% reduction in 2050). There will also be a requirement for certain ships to plug into onshore power supply while at berth in certain ports from 2030.
