Living Lab

Last updated:
Living Lab is a network of thousands of households ready to participate in trials of new clean energy innovations. This network allows innovators without a large customer base to capture energy data from homes via smart meters, smart heating controls, battery storage, solar PV, electric vehicles and chargers, and heat meters. The Living Lab combines network emulation and real-time simulations of future energy system scenarios, enabling the testing and analysis of innovative technologies' impact and performance under future market conditions. The lab can be used by all organizations, including small to large-scale companies, retailers, network operators, financial institutions, policymakers, and regulators. In addition to product and service trials, participants can receive consultancy services from within the Catapult, an independent research and technology organization that runs the lab. These services include consumer insight, systems integration, data science, business model innovation, and expertise in markets, policy, and regulation. The program is managed with government funding.
