Last updated: 5 November 2017
Electromobility is contributing to implementation of the energy- and climate-policy targets of the Federal Republic of Germany. Thus, among other things electromobility is helping implement the "Away From Oil € strategy. The aim of the Government Electromobility Programme is to drive forward research and development for and the market preparation and launch of battery-operated vehicles in Germany. Development of the market is expected to take until 2020, with the market ramp-up phase taking place between now and 2017 and the high-volume market phase from 2017 onwards. The aim is for there to be a million electric vehicles on the German market by 2020. Funds totalling €500m have been made available from the Second Economic Package for the electromobility sector. A further €1bn is being made available for research and development measures between now and the end of the legislative period. Not least in order to secure and expand the leading role of the German automotive and automotive supply industry, the aim is to make Germany the lead market and lead supplier for electromobility. To achieve this it is necessary to dovetail industry as closely as possible with the scientific community in respect of research and to create a suitable regulatory environment for electromobility.
