GteX promotes R&D in designated technology areas critical to achieving industrial competitiveness and carbon neutrality by 2050. This initiative funds a 'team' approach to create consortia of academics and companies across various organizations and sectors in Japan for integrated R&D. Calls for proposals made in 2023 and 2024 focus on batteries, hydrogen, and biomanufacturing. The designated areas will be reviewed based on policies, industrial trends, and R&D trends as needed.Under a project management system consisting of a program director, advisors, and appointed committees, the progress of projects is evaluated during their execution, and the continuation and funding of projects are reviewed accordingly. The fund amounts to 49.6 billion yen for the coming five years.
