Hydrogen City Projects

The Korean government has announced Hydrogen City Projects aimed at demonstration projects covering hydrogen infrastructure, end-uses, and R&D. Projects have been announced in multiple rounds beginning in 2020. First funding round was introduced in 2020 as part of the Korea Green New Deal initiative, selecting three municipalities for demonstration projects and one municipality for R&D projects. Second funding round was announced in 2023 covering six municipalities; third funding round was announced in 2024 covering three municipalities. The fourth funding round is currently in place with a target selection date of 2025.Projects have focused mainly on hydrogen pipelines, installing refueling stations for hydrogen vehicles, fuel cells for backup power, and production of hydrogen from biomass and wastewater facilities.
