GB 55015-2021 - General Code for Building Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Utilization

Last updated: 5 April 2024

The code implemented in April 2022 requires that all new, expanded and reconstructed buildings, and energy-saving renovations of existing buildings, to be designed for energy efficiency. Data reporting specifying the building’s energy consumption and carbon emission are also required. Compared to previous building codes, the regulation puts more emphasis on post-construction buildings operational management (not only the materials and construction process), requires comprehensive measurement and disclosure of energy consumption and carbon emissions, and increases ambition for energy savings through energy efficiency. Carbon emissions: The Code requires that the carbon emission intensity of new residential and public buildings should be reduced by an average of 40% on the basis of the energy-saving design standards implemented in 2016, and the carbon emission intensity should be reduced by more than 7kgCO2/(m2 · a) on average.
