Atal Jyoti Yojana (AJAY)

The Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy rolled out the Atal Jyoti Yojana with The Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) as the implementing partner, with the objective of installing 7W of solar street lights (SSLs) in areas that face less than 50% grid connectivity. The scheme resulted in the installation of 1.35 lakh SSLs between 2016 and 2022.

Phase I of the program was launched September 2016 and ran until March 2018 specifically targeting the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha. Phase II of the program ran from December 2018 until June 2022 and focused more broadly on the aforementioned Phase I states as well as NE and Northern states, island territories of Lakshwadeep and Andaman Nicobar, and a list of 48 other specified districts.
