Carbon Pricing Act

Last updated: 27 March 2024

The Singaporean government started implementing its carbon tax on January 1, 2019. The carbon tax applies to all facilities with annual direct GHG emissions of 25 ktCO2e or more, with no exemptions. For the first five years, the carbon tax rate is set at SGD5/tCO2e. The carbon tax revenue supports initiatives to address climate change. In the initial implementation of the carbon tax, companies are not allowed to use international carbon credits against their carbon tax liability, but Singapore remains open to linking its carbon tax framework to other carbon pricing jurisdictions of high environmental integrity.
