Australian Building Greenhouse Rating Scheme (ABGR) for offices

Launched in 1998, the Australian Building Greenhouse Rating (ABGR) scheme provided accredited assessments of the greenhouse intensity of office buildings by awarding a star rating on a scale of one to five. Five stars represented the most environmentally friendly and one star the least, with industry best practice generally obtaining a three-star rating. The ABGR helps benchmark a buildings greenhouse performance, and achieving a high score is considered a measure of the buildings quality; the Property Council of Australia includes environmental performance in its rating of building quality. The AGBR was designed to assist owners and tenants with reducing energy use, energy costs and greenhouse emissions. The AGBR was incorporated in the National Australian Built Environment Rating System in May 2008, and rebranded NABERS Energy for Offices. The modalities of the scheme remain unchanged.
