Updated Second NDC of United Arab Emirates

Last updated: 8 March 2024

The update to the second nationally determined contribution (NDC) updates the second NDC (submitted in 2020). This updated second NDC updates the United Arab Emirate's reduction target for 2030 to reduce net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the previously targeted figure of 208 MtCO2e, as announced in the Updated Second NDC (2022), to 182 MtCO2e. This target represents an absolute GHG emissions reduction of 19% by 2030 relative to 2019.  This is complemented by sectoral targets for all domestic sectors (power and water generation, heavy industry, transport, waste, buildings, agriculture).

Concerning the oil and gas sector, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) aims to decrease its emissions intensity a further 25% by 2030 and is committed to an upstream methane intensity target of 0.15% by 2025.
