The 3rd National Programme for Mining Industry

Last updated: 8 December 2023

The 3rd National Programme for Mining Industry addresses the challenges and offers a foundation to sustainable development domestic faced by the mining industry.
The three key objectives are:
1. Ensuring a stable supply of industrial commodities by supporting the exploration of domestic mineral deposits and offering potential deposits to the private sector to encourage investment. The plan emphasises efficient stockpiling and management of rare metals to improve responsiveness of the import-dependent erratic metal.
2. Improving productivity and profitability in the private sector by piloting the introduction of smart mining—a fully unmanned and automated operation. The plan also considers utilising foreign labour to address the industry's labour shortage.
3. Enhancing mine safety and environmental practices by raising safety standards, expanding safety infrastructure, and improving the quality of worker training and environment. This involves promoting dust-reducing equipment and encouraging the conversion of mines into tourist sites after closure.
