(Tasmania) Mineral Resources Development Act 1995
The Tasmania Mineral Resources Development Act provides for the development of mineral resources consistent with sound economic, environmental and land use management. The Act regulates the permitting processes for exploration licenses, retention licenses, production licenses, and mining leases. Mining plans submitted during the permitting process must include a description of the potential geological and environmental risks associated with mining operations under the lease, as well as a provision for mine closure and any proposed mine habilitation measures.
Section 164A allows the Minister to declare any area to be an area of geological significance.
Section 179 prohibits leasing and licencing on Aboriginal land without the agreement of the Aboriginal Land Council of Tasmania established under the Aboriginal Lands Act 1995.
Section 181 establishes the Rehabilitation of Mining Lands Trust Fund to be used for contracts mining land rehabilitation contracts.
