Fifty/fifty - incentive schemes for schools to save energy

Source: International Energy Agency
Last updated: 12 November 2019

In order to promote energy-conscious day-to-day behaviour, some German federal states, cities and municipalities have implemented special incentive programmes such as “Fifty/fifty" in schools. The incentive of Fifty/fifty is that each participant school receives 50 % of the energy costs saved by means of conscious user behaviour for its own free use. The aim is to save electricity and heat by means of simple and practicable energy-saving measures.

The approach has since been adopted by other EU Member States.
