In order to finance consumer support measures enacted in response to the energy price crisis, the French government implemented from 2023 a temporary levy on energy companies. As authorized by EU rules, the levy will apply to oil refinery benefits ( subject to a with a 33% taxation rate ), and is expected to generate revenues close to EUR 200 million.  Benefits made by power producers beyond certain threshold, defined by energy source, will also be taxed, with expected revenues amounting to EUR 11 billion in 2023.
