In 2022, the Sultanate of Oman launched its green transition pathway to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The strategic goals of the roadmap include environmental sustainability, energy system costs, economic impact, social impact and security of supply by 2050, with the ambition of reaching energy self-sufficiency for both power and hydrogen.

To reach net zero and minimize its cumulative carbon budget, Oman relies on several decarbonizing technologies that support an orderly transition: electrification and renewables, battery electric technology, sustainable hydrogen, energy efficiency, carbon capture and storage and negative-emission solutions. The national strategy also aims at reducing energy costs for Omani citizens and businesses while also unlocking its hydrogen export economy.
