Center for Minerals and Materials (MiMa)

Last updated: 10 December 2023

In 2013, the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland established the Centre for Minerals and Materials (MiMa) to build knowledge about issues related to the supply and scarcity of mineral raw materials, and to come up with solutions to the future raw material challenges. The Centre conducts research around four interconnected topics:

  1. Security of supply of raw materials,
  2. Raw materials in the circular economy,
  3. Raw materials for 'green' technology and
  4. Raw materials in waste.

The Centre conducts criticality assessments for raw materials at the EU level and for the domestic industry. They also undertake market research for materials recycling and prospecting of secondary raw materials in urban mines and mining wastes. In addition, they offer scenario analysis and value chain analysis for domestic and EU level policy and strategy regarding critical raw materials.
