DOE Funding to Reduce Methane Emissions from Oil and Gas Sector
The US Department of Energy (DOE) announced $32 million of research and development funding for applicants aiming to detect, measure and mitigate methane emissions in oil and gas producing regions of the country through new technologies. The funding opportunity announcement specifically calls for projects looking to 1) advance networks of surface-based methane sensor technologies to increase real-time monitoring of oil and gas basins across the US, 2) create an integrated monitoring platform for early detection and improved quantification of methane emissions along the natural gas supply chain. These efforts are designed to enhance the overall accuracy of methane emissions estimates from the sector.
