Last updated: 10 December 2023

Axis 5 of the Belgian National Plan for Recovery and Resilience targets productivity and future economic challenges. Component 5.3 encompasses measures supporting a more circular economy, including an investment project called ‘Deployment of the circular economy in Wallonia’, with a budget of EUR 113.9 Million (end date: second semester of 2026).

The project includes the following objectives:

·      Increasing resource productivity of 25% between 2020 and 2035;

·      Decreasing Wallonia's direct material demand (DMI) and domestic material consumption (DMC) of 25% in Wallonia by 2030 compared to the year 2013;

·      Increasing the number of Walloon jobs contributing directly and indirectly to the circular economy of 20% by 2025;

·      Double the number of Walloon companies with circular economy practices by 2025.

It will focus on the circularity (reuse, upscaling, recycling) of metals, batteries and minerals including batteries from electric and hybrid vehicles and dismantled aircraft.
