Supplementary directive to the Investigation on a sustainable supply of innovation-critical metals and minerals
On 11 March 2021, the Government decided on a committee directive to review processes and regulatory frameworks for a sustainable supply of innovation-critical metals and minerals. A special investigator is to review processes and regulatory frameworks with the aim of ensuring a sustainable supply of innovation-critical metals and minerals from primary and secondary sources. The inquiry is not limited to any specific part of review processes or regulatory frameworks.
The investigator shall verify how the supply of the innovation-critical metals and minerals necessary for the climate transition can be given a special status vis-à-vis other metals and minerals in the Environmental Code's provisions on land and water management and make the necessary legislative proposals.
The investigation will examine the possibility for innovation-critical metals and minerals to be reflected in the National Interest System of the Environmental Code. The legislation currently does not distinguish innovation-critical metals and minerals from other metals and minerals, despite their importance for the energy transition.
