New methodology rules for renewable cooling
The European Commission published a new calculation methodology to measure the impact of renewable cooling and district cooling on EU renewable energy targets. The warming climate incremented the demand for thermal comfort: cooling accounts now for 5 to 20% of final energy consumption in some EU countries. The new methodology introduces a threshold system based on energy performance. Cooling systems below the lower threshold will not be considered as renewable, whereas cooling systems above the second and higher threshold will. Cooling systems in between the two thresholds will be evaluated as partially renewable, the closer they are to the higher threshold. The new regulation will contribute to enhance the development of energy efficient cooling technologies.
