Using energy more efficiently helps industry to become more competitive and reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs) and air pollution, thereby contributing to a cleaner environment for all Canadians. The ecoENERGY Retrofit programme is available to industrial facilities with fewer than 500 employees to help them implement energy saving projects that reduce energy-related greenhouse gases and air pollution, thereby contributing to a cleaner environment for all Canadians. Administered by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), this programme is part of the ecoENERGY for Industry Initiative, which altogether is expected to achieve energy savings equivalent to the energy used by between 65,000 and 146,000 households. The ecoENERGY Retrofit programme is designed to help industrial facilities overcome financial barriers to improving the energy efficiency of their operations. NRCan will provide a financial incentive of up to 25% of project costs to a maximum of CAD50,000 per application and CAD250,000 per corporate entity to help small- and medium-sized industrial facilities implement energy saving projects. Specifically, this program will help companies: - implement retrofit projects that generate annual energy savings and pay for themselves through reduced expenditures on utilities, such as energy, water and waste - establish a baseline against which to compare future improvements - help kick-start their energy management strategy. In conjunction with a facilitys retrofit improvements, NRCans energy management workshops and other tools can help companies to identify low- or no-cost energy saving opportunities, such as improving a facilitys operating procedures and educating building users.
