National Electromobility Strategy

Last updated: 3 June 2024

The Chilean government launched in 2021 its National Electromobility Strategy, which establishes a set of measures to transition to electromobility. The government focuses on regulations and incentives to develop electromobility, considered by a cornerstone to reach carbon neutrality by 2050.

This includes:

  • To reach a 100% of electric vehicle sales by 2035 for light and medium vehicles, public transport, major mobile machinery, including extraction trucks and heavy mining machinery. Only electric cars are to be sold from 2035 onwards.
  • 100% of the sales of minor mobile machinery by 2040, including agricultural, forestry and construction machinery, will be zero emissions.
  • 100% of the sales of freight transport and intercity buses to be emission-free by 2045.
