For the year 2021-2027, the European Commission has released new technical recommendations on climate-proofing infrastructure projects.
The goal of the guidance is to include climate considerations into future infrastructure investment and development projects ranging from buildings to network infrastructure to a variety of built systems and assets.

The guidance specifies that any project's operation, maintenance, and final decommissioning should be carried out in a climate-neutral manner, which may include circular economy concerns such as recycling or repurposing of materials, for infrastructure with a lifespan beyond 2050.

New infrastructure projects' climate resilience should be ensured by appropriate adaption measures based on a climate risk assessment.
