Minimum energy performance standards for air conditioners over 65kW in capacity

Last updated: 11 February 2022

The Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (Air Conditioners above 65kW) Determination 2020 (the 2020 Determination) came into force in Australia as of 1 April 2022. The 2020 Determination introduces minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) for air conditioners greater than 65kW. It also requires registrants to provide Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (SEER) information when registering models of these products.

The introduction of the 2020 Determination builds on the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards (Air Conditioners up to 65kW) Determination 2019 published on 1 April 2019. It follows industry consultation throughout 2019 and 2020, and brings into effect the decision made by the COAG Energy Council in December 2018 to introduce tighter MEPS for air conditioners.
