CCS Project 'Longship'

Last updated: 13 July 2021

Longship is Norway's largest industrial climate project so far.

Total project cost is estimated to be about EUR 2.5 billion. Longship is a milestone in the Government’s combined industry and climate efforts.

The aim is to capture CO2 – transport it to a terminal on the west coast – and to store it in underground in reservoirs on the Norwegian continental shelf.

The transportation and storage part is known by the name Northern Lights. Equinor, Shell and Total are industry partners.

The ambition is to achieve emission cuts, facilitate development of new technology, and thus new jobs.
