Last updated: 1 July 2024

The EU’s Innovation Fund is designed to support low-carbon technologies and processes in energy intensive industries, CCUS construction and operation, renewable energy, and energy storage. Revenues from the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) feed into the Innovation Fund from the auctioning of approximately 530 million which has been increased from 450 million, along with unused funds from the EU NER300 programme. The funded innovative projects are focusing on the areas including innovative low-carbon technologies and process in energy-intensive industries, CCUS, renewable energy generation, energy storage, net zero mobility and buildings. The projects are differentiated between large-scale demonstrations and small-scale pilots and have been expanded to include funding for manufacturing facilities.
