HOUSTON, USA – Dr Fatih Birol, the IEA’s Executive Director, met with Argentina’s Secretary of Energy Gustavo Lopetegui today at CERA Week in Houston. Following discussions on the IEA’s outlook for the global energy sector — including Oil 2019, the IEA’s newly released detailed analysis of developments in global oil markets and forecast to 2024 — Dr Birol and Secretary Lopetegui signed a renewal of the joint programme of work between the IEA and Argentina and agreed to develop stronger institutional ties.
“The IEA is very pleased to work closely with Argentina, an important energy producer with enormous potential, especially in unconventional oil and gas as well as energy efficiency and renewables,” said Dr. Birol. “This new programme shows our strong commitment to continue and to expand our cooperation.”
The renewal of the joint programme of work for 2019-2020 continues years of collaboration on energy data and statistics, including work with regional organization OLADE on updated energy data collection standards. The new programme builds upon the close interaction between the IEA and Argentina in the context of Argentina’s G20 presidency in 2018, by adding collaboration with Argentina in the context of regional activities under the IEA’s Clean Energy Transitions Programme. Additional areas of cooperation will include energy efficiency and renewable energy.
