The Southeast Asia Energy Outlook 2022 is the fifth edition of this special report from the IEA’s flagship World Energy Outlook series. Building on its important partnership with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the IEA has published the Southeast Asia Energy Outlook on a regular basis since 2013. The studies offer insights spanning ASEAN’s 10 member countries.
The Covid-19 pandemic, new energy and climate policy commitments and, most recently, high and volatile commodity prices exacerbated by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine have all affected the energy prospects of Southeast Asia. Against this backdrop of new uncertainties and ambitions, the new IEA report explores different possible trajectories for the region’s energy sector, differentiated primarily by the policies pursued by individual governments.
