Workshop Description

As part of its global engagement efforts, the IEA held a stakeholder event that was aimed at exploring best practice policy instruments for supporting and accelerating the deployment of climate technologies, with focus on the ETC and SEMED regions. The workshop provided key experts and stakeholders with the opportunity to discuss their experiences — successes and challenges — and short- and long-term pathways forward.

In particular, the workshop targeted the following objectives:

  • sharing information about experiences and lessons learned through EE&RE projects and actions carried out in the target regions, and in other regions as comparative examples;
  • identifying through policy dialogue the most pressing needs, barriers to and action options for the market uptake of EE&RE technologies in the target regions; and
  • recognising international and regional networks that can play a significant role in the regional pursuit of climate change mitigation and adaptation targets.

The IEA’s preparation and hosting of this workshop benefited from the substantive and financial contribution of the EBRD, the latter via its Special Shareholders Fund and via its Finance and Technology Transfer Centre for Climate Change (FINTECC), which is supported by the Global Environment Facility. The workshop was conducted in co-ordination with the EBRD and with inputs from the FAO.
