30 Sep 2021 14:00—15:30 Webinar — Paris, France

People-Centred Clean Energy Transitions: A Focus on Gender Equity and Social Inclusion

Building on the findings of the Global Commission on People-Centred Clean Energy Transitions, this virtual event will explore the ways in which clean energy transitions can positively address gender equity and inclusion goals, and avoid disproportionate impacts on marginalised groups.

Co-organised by the International Energy Agency and the Delhi based Council on Energy, Environment and Water as part of the Pre-COP “All4Climate – Italy 2021" Programme, this event will include a focus on the context of emerging economies, in which women are often disproportionately affected by a lack of energy access or reliance on more polluting forms of energy.

Some countries have demonstrated, at scale, well-structured programmes to reform inefficient fossil fuel subsidies, provide technologies such as improved cooking technologies, encourage shifts toward more modern appliances that free up women’s and girls’ capacities to pursue education or enter the workforce, and mitigate the net impact of energy transition costs on households. This event will draw upon the extensive experience and deep insights of global energy and policy leaders to explore ways to ensure that clean energy transitions – across geographies, demographics, and sociopolitical circumstances – are for and about people.

This webinar will be livestreamed in English on the day of the event on this page. It will also be available in French and Spanish on this page after the event.
