IEA at COP27: Energy efficiency as a valuable resource - boosting energy performance of the economy and renovating buildings
Background information
Egypt Time, GMT +2: 12:30 PM-1:30 PM
While energy-saving measures have an immediate impact, they must be combined with structural energy efficiency measures to have a long-term impact on lowering energy demand and greenhouse gas emissions, risk of disruption of the energy supply, pressure on the energy market, and support the transition to clean energy. The REPowerEU package (which intends to phase out EU dependency from Russia's fossil fuel imports by 2027), the EU "Save Energy" Plan, and the “Renovation Wave” are based on the IEA's suggestions in the Playing my part report, which was released in April 2022.
The event will present a chance to push for the creation of a specific energy efficiency policy framework in the various Paris Agreement signatories and emphasize the importance of energy efficiency on a global scale. The advantages of increasing the adoption of energy efficiency techniques and solutions from an economic, climatic, and energy-security standpoint will be discussed in this session. The discussion will center on the benefits of energy efficiency for economic growth and competitiveness in various geographical and regulatory contexts, as well as for enhancing the quality of life for people, with a specific emphasis on energy efficiency in buildings.
To attend this event virtually, prior registration on the EU Pavilion website is required.
