Workshop — New Delhi, India

Heavy-Duty Vehicle Fuel Efficiency Regulations

Background

The Government of India is attaching a very high priority to conservation of petroleum products in view of the need to reduce an ever increasing gap between demand for and indigenous supply of crude oil and petroleum products. Following the promulgation of fuel efficiency standards for light duty vehicles the Government is now aiming to develop similar standards and regulations for the heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs).

An international workshop, aiming to facilitate the development of Heavy-Duty Vehicle (HDV) fuel efficiency regulations in India, was held on Wednesday, 29 April 2015 at the India Habitat Center in New Delhi. The event was co-hosted by the Indian Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) and the International Energy Agency (IEA) and organised with the cooperation of the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT).

The workshop featured contributions from the IEA Secretariat, international experts from Europe, Japan, the Republic of Korea and the United States of America, representatives of the ICCT, the Indian Government, Indian and European Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and automotive component suppliers.

The event was supported by the IEA Energy Efficiency in Emerging Economies (E4) programme. It is aligned with the priorities identified in the G20 energy efficiency action plan and the IEA involvement in the Global Fuel Economy Initiative (GFEI). The meeting, welcomed and well attended by Indian stakeholders, also involved the participation of institutional delegates from emerging economies (Indonesia, Mexico, Thailand and Vietnam).

A workshop summary is available here.
