Conventional ethanol refers to production using food energy crops. Advanced ethanol refers to cellulosic ethanol production using wastes and residues. Conventional biodiesel includes fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) using food energy crops. Advanced biodiesel and biojet kerosene include biomass-based Fischer-Tropsch (bio-FT) and hydrotreated vegetable and waste oil (HVO)/hydrotreated esters and fatty acids (HEFA) using wastes, residues and non-food energy crops grown on marginal and non-arable land. Advanced biomethanol includes bio-FT using wastes, resides and non-food energy crops grown on marginal and non-arable land.
