No need for space cooling is assumed to be when the sum total of the difference between the daily mean outdoor temperature and the base temperature of 10°C (cooling degree days with base temperature of 10°C) is lower than 1 000 over one year, while it is a hot climate if higher than 5 000. Need for space cooling does not necessary correspond to the need of installing space cooling equipment, but rather to consider cooling-oriented design options during the construction phase of the building.
