Energy Efficiency Law

Last updated: 18 November 2022

The President of Chile promulgated the Energy Efficiency Law, which emphasizes the decarbonisation of the public transport system. Some key aspect of the law include the institutionalization of energy efficiency through the publication of a National Energy Efficiency Plan every 5 years by the Ministry of Energy, and the energy labelling of all new buildings.

The law is a critical step in achieving the country’s carbon neutrality by 2050, as it aims to reduce energy intensity by at least 10% by 2030. This represents an accumulated saving of USD 15.2 billion and a reduction of 28.6 million Ton CO2.

The government has launched two public consultations on the regulations of the "National Registry of Energy Evaluators" and "Energy Qualification of Homes in Chile", open until June 10 and 22 respectively.
